Letter from the Prime Minister - The Right Honourable Helen Clark

ChristChurch Cathedral and its renowned Cathedral Choir are both cultural icons of Christchurch and the South Island of New Zealand.  The Cathedral is one of the country's leading visitor attractions, and the Cathedral Choir has achieved a national and international reputation.

The Cathedral Choir is the only professional men's and boys' choir in the Commonwealth outside the United Kingdom.  It was formed in May 1881 and has been in continuing existence over the past 126 years. Under its Musical Director Brian Law the choir has reached new heights of excellence.  It is now time to showcase the Cathedral Choir to international audiences.

The planned tour of the United Kingdom in 2008 will see the choir perform in eight Cathedral Cities in England, including for a week in Westminster Abbey.  This offers a very special opportunity for New Zealand corporates to assist and be associated with the showcasing of this outstanding New Zealand talent.

I am delighted to add my support to this project and to encourage you to become associated with a tour which will enhance and profile the very best of New Zealand artistic talent.

Yours sincerely

Helen Clark
Minister of Arts, Culture and Heritage
