The boys in Oxford.
The longest traveling day in England is coming up on this long tour of England, Oxford.
Wednesday 23rd July 2008
Today we traveled from Cambridge to Oxford which took 3 to 4 hours and then we had to travel to Coventry to sing the service. That took another 2 to 3 hours to get there plus another 5 to 10 minutes to find a park for the bus. When the bus was finally parked, we had some time to look around the Cathedral and take photos. It was very interesting for us to hear the echo in the Cathedral, much louder than the echo in our Cathedral. Afterwards we went out for dinner at a Bar / Restaurant followed by another 2 to 3 hour trip back to Oxford. By that stage it was 9:30pm and guess what…it was straight to bed!
Note: today was the longest traveling day with a total of 10 hours.
Thursday 24th July 2008
Today we went for a 'Deluxe Extended Tour' from Oxford to Tewkesbury. On the tour we saw 'Burton on the water', 'Stow on the Wold' and another one, which just doesn’t seem to be there at the moment. On the way we stopped and had lunch at 'Burton on the water' which is a lovely place. We then continued on the road to Tewkesbury. When we got there we had a bit of a run around before we went inside for a look around, a practise and then a service. Afterwards we had Fish ’n Chips on the green and played cricket against a 900-year-old wall. Then we traveled all the way back to Oxford.
Friday 25th July 2008
Today we had an early start and headed off to Blenheim Palace but there was horrible traffic backed up for miles and miles. It took us 3 hours to go 6 miles so after 3hours of waiting we 'pulled the plug' and turned around to head back home. Instead of going to Blenheim palace we ended up playing for a couple of hours instead then it was off to the Cathedral to sing a service. Not the most interesting day.
Saturday 26th July 2008
On Saturday we had a well-deserved free day on which we traveled a small distance away from Oxford to a farm owned by friends of Mr and Mrs Rutter. We spent the day relaxing and playing games. During the course of the day we rode horses, ate a very large and filling BBQ lunch, played guitar hero on a Play station and played Mr Rutter's 'The Choir' Game in which we ran around the garden following an unknown trail of song names and song composers of our music library. The game was won by Michael with Henry coming a split-second behind and Jonathon third. This was a very nourishing day and set us in good spirits for the days to come. (This Paragraph was by Michael Hall due to the fact that I was away with my cousins).
Sunday 27th July 2008
We went for a service at Christ Church Cathedral Oxford but before we headed to the Cathedral we went and had breakfast with Harry Potter Just kidding, we went to the hall where he had his meals. This is the dining room used in the Harry Potter movies. While there the preacher, the one who lead the service, kept saying - “I won’t go to far with this but the people from the land of the 'Lord of the Rings' came over to the land of 'Harry Potter' ”. We then could choose between walking around or staying at the school house before going off to evensong at 6:00pm.
